South Bank Lion to Buckingham Palace

This is the eleventh Section of the Jubilee Greenway. It is the Section which completes the route back to the Palace after the 60 kilometres of the Jubilee Greenway.

At the South Bank Lion, climb the steps and turn right over Westminster Bridge. St Thomas’ Hospital and the Florence Nightingale Museum are opposite. (To reach Waterloo Station, turn left at Westminster Bridge.)

After crossing the Thames by Westminster Bridge, cross the Victoria Embankment into Bridge Street, with the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben on the left. Cross Whitehall into Parliament Square, remaining on the right hand side of the square. In Parliament Square are various statues, most prominently that of Sir Winston Churchill. St Margaret’s, Westminster and Westminster Abbey are on the left.

There is a Jubilee Walkway panel in this part of Parliament Square.

Leave Parliament Square by continuing straight ahead along Great George Street and turn right into Horse Guards. On your right are the Cabinet War Rooms, 10 Downing Street, and Horse Guards Parade and Whitehall. Keep straight ahead, following the Jubilee Walkway through St James’s Park, and this leads to the Mall. Turn left into the Mall and proceed straight ahead.

On the right are the Duke of York steps, Carlton House Terrace, the memorial to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Marlborough House, St James’s Palace and Clarence House, and Lancaster House.

The Victoria Memorial and Buckingham Palace are in view at the top of the Mall. On arriving there, the route has been completed.
